Members also learned more about upcoming competitions and events that will be happening in the coming months. Lastly, on January 28th, four officers attended SOCS, which is also known as State Officer Candidate School. Fall 2022 Update

Back in October we took a trip to Fernbrook Farms in Chesterfield, NJ. We learned about the many wonderful things they grow and were able to explore their greenhouses. We also had our annual Halloween Safety Poster Contest at Newell Elementary School. The 3rd and 4th graders had the opportunity to make a poster describing 3-5 Trick or Treat safety rules and the posters were judged by members of the FFA. Prizes were awarded to the winners of the several categories and for each grade. At the end of October, 8 of our members were able to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN. We competed on the National level for a public speaking event and had a display to represent our agriculture in New Jersey. Also at the convention, members were able to participate in community service events and have loads of fun.

Moving forward to November, we again had our Fruit and Cheesecake sale. The sale offered items such as pears, apples, grapefruit, navel oranges, and more. There were also 3 flavors of cheesecakes for sale which were plain, strawberry, and triple chocolate. While that sale was going on, we also held our apparel sale of items including t-shirts, sweatshirts, crewnecks, long sleeves, zip-up jackets, and sweatpants. The officer team created the design that is featured on this year's orders. Another annual November event was our annual Thanksgiving Floral Arrangement sale. There were two types of arrangements to choose from, a cornucopia or a single-candle centerpiece. Members constructed the arrangements under the guidance of advisors and alumni, it was a great learning experience for all of those who participated. Members even demonstrated how to construct similar cornucopia arrangements during a workshop at the 4 Seasons earlier this month.

Finally, in December, our Popcorn Park Animal Refuge collections were going on throughout the month. Donation bins were placed at some local businesses and all three district schools. The Popcorn Park Animal Refuge greatly appreciates these donations and the collections to help animals in need. All donations will be delivered to the Popcorn Park Refuge by members at the end of the month. And as the holiday season approaches, holiday centerpieces will also be another continued fundraiser and learning experience for the chapter. We offer three types of floral arrangements, Mason Jar Style Arrangement, Single Candle Centerpiece, and Double Candle Centerpiece. Members and alumni will construct the arrangements that will be ready for pick up before the district closes for winter break.

Thank you for all of your support in our activities and fundraisers as we strive to create a Future For All.

FFA Week is a time to recognize everyone involved in FFA in many different ways for chapters all across the country. Chapters take the time to recognize the SAE’s (Supervised Agricultural Experiences) of their members and to do fun and engaging activities to get members involved. Our chapter goes to visit Leslie Applegate's grave, the first president of the National FFA Organization back in 1928 from Freehold, NJ, to pay our respects and acknowledge all he has done for this organization. In addition we have activities like movie nights, trivia, bowling, and more! Due to the pandemic this year, we have had to alter some of our activities to be able to be virtual, but we still wanted to keep everyone involved and lift people up in these hard times. Lastly, we conclude our week with our Annual Sponsors Breakfast to recognize and thank our sponsors and everyone who has helped our chapter get to the point we have, because we most definitely would not have been able to do it without them!! We would like to take FFA Week as a time to reconnect, revive and keep members involved and help them remember why they are a part of this wonderful organization.

December 2020

Coming up in 2021, we have many exciting activities planned for people to safely participate in. Our annual Popcorn Park Zoo donation collection is starting to occur and there are buckets for you to put donations in the following locations:

Continuing on, we have our monthly chapter meetings that will feature many virtual activities and games! Don’t forget to sign up for Winter Career Development Events (CDE's) as practices have begun. The three CDEs include Forestry, Agri-Business and Meat Evaluation. State Officer Candidates School (SOCS) is January 25-30 with online workshops and virtual meetings. This is a great opportunity to learn more after furthering your involvement in FFA as well as learning how to become a part of nominating committee or running for state office.

There are even more activities in the planning stages and will be upcoming and its a good idea to start thinking about them now! These include the NJ State FFA sponsored ALLD, or Advocacy And Legislative Leadership Day, which is all about empowering yourself and others to stand up for yourself and what you believe in. This conference teaches you how to take charge of your actions and lead your own agenda as well as be a leader for others.

The Valentine’s Day Floral Sale will be a little different (like everything else) this year. We will be pre-selling flowers for you to purchase to celebrate your special someone!

The NJ FFA Horticulture Exposition is still happening, virtually that is! Throughout the months of February and March members will have the opportunity to create and submit beautiful floral arrangements in pre-selected categories. The dates to build and categorizes to select from will be announced on the Allentown FFA Google Classroom.

Don’t forget about National FFA week is the 20th through the 27th! We have lots of virtual activities but we have many exciting activities planned to get everyone involved and sharing the joy of FFA!

2020 Happenings

January 2020

This month Jennifer Healey of the Allentown FFA was named the January State Member of the Month for New Jersey. Anyone who wishes to become a member of the month for the state has to complete an application which then gets sent to the State. Many members apply for this award every month.

Our apparel sale came to an end this month. It was a huge success and everyone loved the design for the apparel. It was so popular that we decided to do another order due January 17th.

January 16th was our monthly chapter meeting. We had the opportunity to welcome Mrs Pribell to come and speak to us. We learned a lot about the Farm Bureau and how we can be involved. Mrs Pribell also spoke to us about her and her husband's beekeeping business. It was very interesting to learn about the different types of honey and what it takes to be a beekeeper. We would like to thank Mrs Pribell for this amazing opportunity. After the meeting was adjourned we held a cupcake decorating competition.

Coming up in February we have FFA Week. FFA week is held the last week of February which is February 23rd to the 29th. FFA week is a time for chapters all around the country to celebrate FFA and how it has affected each member. During this week we plan to do many fun activities and attend a leadership conference. We are also preparing for our Valentine's Day fundraiser.

December 2019

By Kylie Byrne

In December of 2019 Allentown FFA participated in many fun events and held many fundraisers. This month we held our annual Poinsettia sale and Holiday Centerpiece Sale. Members stayed after school on December 16th and 17th to construct the holiday centerpieces. The event was very enjoyable and members learned a lot about floral design. We would also like to thank everyone who helped support the Allentown FFA by purchasing a poinsettia or one of our holiday floral arrangements.

On December 6th some members attended Science Night Live at Newell Elementary School. A presentation was given to the students which taught them about the many different pigments within a leaf. The Students were able to do a fun activity to understand this topic and had the opportunity to interact with one of our bunnies, Snowball. December 19th was our monthly chapter meeting. We talked about the various past and upcoming events and afterwards we made graham cracker houses and an ugly sweater contest.

December 20th was the end of our annual Pet Supply Drive. Throughout the month buckets where placed at various locations around town and pet supplies for Popcorn Park Zoo where collected. After school members helped take all of the items to the Popcorn Park Zoo where they were collected to be used in the animal shelter. Members then had the opportunity to tour the animal shelter and the zoo. The collection was a huge success and the trip was a lot of fun.
